UPDATE: The sheriff’s office says the incident is a possible attempted murder-suicide.
Officials don’t believe the two are Tangipahoa residents but were just passing through the area when the incident occurred.
The investigation is ongoing.

TANGIPAHOA PARISH – Two people were hospitalized after being found shot next to a parked vehicle on I-55 Monday afternoon.
According to the Tangipahoa Parish fire chief, first responders were called to I-55 North near the Amite exit around 1:30. Near the overpass, they found a woman lying on the driver’s side of a vehicle and a man lying on the ground nearby, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims appeared to be in critical condition, the chief said. The man was airlifted to a hospital and the woman was transported by ambulance.
It is still unclear how the shooting unfolded.
One northbound lane is currently closed between the LA 1048 and LA 16 exits while authorities investigate.
