TANGIPAHOA PARISH – Authorities say a man was found dead after he was ejected from his boat in South Pass Manchac Wednesday.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents recovered the body of 66-year-old Edward Ridgel Jr. around 7:45 a.m. Thursday morning, WWL-TV reports.

Ridgel’s family reported him missing around 6:30 p.m. when he didn’t come back after a day of fishing.

Officials say a fisherman later spotted an unmanned aluminum vessel around 7:15 a.m. Thursday. WWL said agents located Ridgel’s body 30 minutes later about 30 feet away from the boat.

It’s unknown at this time on how Ridgel was ejected from the boat. The Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office will determine an official cause of death.

According to the LDWF Ridgel wasn’t wearing a life jacket when his body was found.
